The BIRTH OF A LABEL
Imperativa Records is a record label founded by award winning producer and composer Yoav Goren that is dedicated to the genre of Epic Music.
It started as a hobby. Goren was busy heading up music production firm Immediate Music in Hollywood, CA. In the early to mid-2000's, Immediate was the leading composer collective in the world specializing in music for motion picture advertising. From custom scoring for trailers of big tent-pole blockbusters for the likes of Disney, Paramount, Warner Brother, Sony Pictures, to licensing its catalog works for movie trailers, advertising projects, television programs and video game trailers, the workload was heavy. But it never felt that way to Goren, who felt fortunate to be able to fill his day with writing, arranging, producing music that accompanied and enhanced grand visuals at the multiplex.
While Immediate Music and it's president Goren enjoyed much success in the industry, Goren the composer was eager to share this very impactful and emotional music with more than a few dozen editors and music supervisors in Hollywood. Imperativa's first project was Goren's ambitious "Epicon" album, under his artist moniker Globus, which drew upon Immediate Music's epic orchestral trailer cues as a backdrop to high energy and emotional rock songs exploring themes of the human condition, historical narratives and personal aspirations.
By the late 2000's, it became evident that there was a huge, underserved fan base for hybrid, orchestral trailer music that was generally not accessible by the public. And so with 2008's “Trailerhead”, Imperativa ushered in the modern era of commercial releases of music featured in motion picture advertising and other visual media. From here, the label was intent on exposing and promoting the many colors and flavors of epic music. That passion continues to this day, with 5 Trailerhead albums to date, as well as many others from artists dedicated to exploring new creative directions in the genre.
